The Cover Wars: Flying Blind

Tara of Basically Books and I decided to get together to do a weekly meme where we would compare covers of the UK editions of books with those of the US editions.

The aim of this is to just have a bit of fun. We put ourselves in the position where we see both of these books side by side in the bookstore. Which would we choose? Why that one and not the other?

This week our book is one that I've never heard of before. Tara assures me that she knows someone who's read and enjoyed it so it is an actual book! For whatever reason, I've never seen it around, though.

US cover                                                               UK cover

Rea says: Honestly, if I came across either of these books in the store I’m not sure I’d give them more than a passing glance. The US one is fairly generic. The girl’s got the Kristen Stewart sort of look that’s become so popular since the Twilight movies came out. To me, she also looks… well, bored. In contrast, the model on the UK cover has got that come-and-let-me-tell-you-a-secret look in her eyes. I’m not sold on the hair covering one side of her face, though. In the end, I’ve brought it down to the text of the title and the image of the dragon. I prefer both on the UK cover so UK it is.

Tara says: I can't help but think that on the US version the girl looks very depressed and serious about something. What’s more, I know this book is about dragons and there's only a small picture of a dragon. The UK one has a much bigger picture of a dragon and the girl’s hair being messy makes me want to read more. I also like the girl’s eyes in the UK one. I am going with UK though they both look very similar.

Score:

Week 7:     US: 1     UK: 3     Draw: 2

Do you want to join in too? Here’s how:

Step 1: Copy and paste the Cover Wars image.
Step 2: Copy and paste our intro or write your own but it must link back to both of our blogs.
Step 3: Copy and paste the US and UK cover images.
Step 4: Compare the two.
Step 5: Either use our score or keep your own score.
Step 6: Post it and share it!
Thanks and have fun!
